Blue Mountain Real Estate and Community Guide

Blue Mountain lives up to its name by being the highest elevation on the gulf. At 65 feet above sea level, it is no Mt. Everest but it does give Blue Mountain something unique when it comes to the 30A communities. The blue in its name comes from the wildflower that grows here. The blue lupine, a cousin of the Texas Bluebonnet, speckles the landscape with beautiful blues that accent the gulf waters spectacularly. Blue Mountain is laid back and cool, it doesn’t lack for activities but they come without the hustle of some of its neighboring communities. This makes Blue Mountain one of the best options for Condo living in the area, with several great condominium complexes. Locals love to stop by the Blue Mountain Bakery for organic baked goods and locally roasted coffee. For something a little different stop by Redd’s Fueling Station or visit Johnny McTighe’s Irish Pub where they serve the best tater tot nachos, YUM!

Things to do in Blue Mountain

Redd’ Fueling Station is a hidden gem that is definitely worth a visit. The front is an unassuming gas station and convenience store, but venture further in and you will find a restaurant with experience all its own. Redd not only slings drinks but also sings and performs. This “singing and slinging” draws quite the crowd and reservations are recommended. Nothing compares to the atmosphere of a restaurant with live music and often guests find themselves singing along as Redd belts out the tunes and creates an evening you won’t soon forget. Redd also brings in top talent, we were lucky enough to enjoy a night with one of Nashville’s top songwriters. We had our own MTV unplugged session. For something on the other end of the nightlife spectrum, McTighe’s Irish Pub is exactly what you are looking for. It lives up to its name and provides great beers, pub foods in generous portions, and nothing fancy or elaborate, just good times with great folks. Cash only, but they have an ATM in case you forget.

Coastal Dune Lakes Blue Mountain is home to three of the area’s fifteen coastal dune lakes that exist only in a handful of places around the globe, including New Zealand and Australia. These lakes share a connection with the gulf but are not always saltwater bodies. They fill with runoff and swelling groundwater, but as they overfill their banks, they mix with the gulf, which makes each lake a unique body for wildlife and vegetation.

Blue Mountain Restaurants and Shopping

If you feel like staying close to home, Blue Mountain has an array of local dining and shopping options. Breakfast & Brunch: Blue Mabel is my favorite Blue Mountain brunch spot. Come for the bottomless mimosas, stay for the smoked tomato gravy.  Stop by Blue Mountain Bakery, for an assortment of scratch-made baked goods, frittata, and quiche. I don’t know if they are technically “breakfast” food, but I love to dunk their chocolate puddle cookies in my coffee.  Lunch: Basmati’s Asian Cousine has the best lunch selections. Their Asian inspired menu has everything from sushi, to soybean hummus and teriyaki salmon. The Thai chicken salad wrap is my go-to. Supper and Snacks: The Goatfeather’s in Blue Mountain offers a sit down restaurant or you can grab a few pounds of peel-n-eat shrimp to go. Pro-Tip, they will steam/season them for you and be sure to get their homemade cocktail and remoulade sauce for dipping. A visit to Blue Mountain isn’t complete without stopping by family-owned, Blue Mountain Creamery. The line is worth it, and don’t forget cash.

Justin Gaffrey Gallery  Justin Gaffrey has become 30A’s signature artist, with his unique “sculpting with paint” technique. His work is instantly recognizable and highly sought after for private homes and public venues around the world. His Studio / Gallery in Blue Mountain Beach is a must-see local attraction.
